Hudson Valley Community College Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Technician HV-CS-9700 in Troy, New York

Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) located in scenic Upstate NY is a multi-campus College with locations in Troy and Malta New York. HVCC offers more than 80 degree and certificate programs in three schools: Business and Liberal Arts; Health Sciences; and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Hudson Valley is one of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York (SUNY) system and serves nearly 9,000 students each year. The college is a recognized leader in career and transfer preparation, workforce training initiatives, distance learning and service to a diverse population of students. Hudson Valley has an extension center in Malta, NY known as HVCC North and sponsors the Capital District Educational Opportunity Center in Troy, NY. RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must have been legal residents of New York State for at least FOUR months immediately preceding the date of the test. Pursuant to subdivision 4a of Sec. 23 of the Civil Service Law, preference may be given to successful candidates who have been legal residents of the municipality to which the appointment is to be made for at least FOUR months preceding the date of the written test. Preference will be given to Rensselaer County residents.

Provisional appointment: The successful candidate must take and pass the Rensselaer County Civil Service HVAC Technician examination, when offered, and be reachable on the eligible list to qualify for permanent employment.

In order to be considered an applicant for this position you must meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement. HVCC does not sponsor Visas. Applicants must currently hold an unrestricted employment authorization to work in the United States and appointment will be contingent upon completion of a background check.

Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Technician

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Associate’s Degree in air conditioning or refrigeration technology, or related field and five years of full-time paid experience in the repair and maintenance of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and one year of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity (OR) Completion of a technical school course in air conditioning or refrigeration technology, or related field and five years of full-time paid experience in the repair and maintenance of air conditioning, ventilation, and refrigeration systems and one year of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity (OR) an equivalent combination of training and experience as outlined by the limits above. Must have a valid, clean driver's license and be able to lift 50lbs.

The preferred candidate will also possess a High School Diploma and a New York State Pesticide Handler license or the ability to obtain a license within one year.

DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES: The Technician reports to the Director of Physical Plant and performs the following duties:

• Directs, supervises and assists Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Mechanic and Stationary Engineers.

• Inspects, maintains and repairs refrigeration systems and equipment.

• Cleans, lubricates and otherwise services pumps, compressors, ventilation and refrigeration systems.

• Plans, executes, and supervises a preventative maintenance program for air conditioning-ventilation, heating and refrigeration systems.

• Inspects machinery and equipment and replaces worn or broken parts.

• Monitors HVAC system performance using Johnson Controls Metasys system and adjusts thermostats and control systems to ensure maximum system efficiency.

• Installs and repairs wiring, switches and controls.

• Plans estimates and requisitions materials needed for maintenance and repairs.

• Prepares specifications for HVAC system contractor work.

• Keeps logs of inspections and repairs, prepares and revises operating manuals.

• Performs a variety of related duties as assigned.

There are two Full-Time positions available with an hourly rate of $31.53.
