The School of Life Sciences (SOLS) invites applications for a full-time, benefits-eligible,Instructional Specialists Senior. Subsequent fiscal year renewals are contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the unit.\ \ The successful candidate supports the School of Life Sciences teaching laboratories (introductory biology, anatomy and physiology, introductory microbiology, etc.) by teaching/instructing on-campus immersion laboratory sections and occasionally online courses:

  • The position of Instructional Specialist is a full-time position with work hours subject to the needs of the School of Life Sciences.
  • Must be able to accommodate a flexible work schedule, including evenings as required. Assigned duties may vary semester-to-semester.

Essential Duties EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE + OPERATION Maintain and repair sculpture and foundry equipment (approx. 200 items) Evaluate, prepare and install new equipment that comes into the departments LAB/STUDIO MAINTENANCE + SAFETY Organize and execute end of semester clean up Inventory, requisition and restock supplies for the labs/studios Support Graduate students at Grant Street Studios facility Maintain MSDS book for Print and sculpture Follow up with Fire and safety codes and violations from Fire Marshal and EH&S Be the safety supervisor during iron pours here on campus Work with faculty to plan and monitor an annual budget for associated area and class fees CLASSROOM + STUDENT SUPPORT Support classes with materials pick up Manage work study student positions Schedule and manage 16 studio monitors throughout the semester Assist with faculty classroom projects Write or re-write equipment instructions to assist faculty, teaching assistants and students As appropriate, take students through processes related to their projects Assist students completing work for the end of semester shows Help support the Director and the other School of Art Departments Maintain shop equipment for safety and proper use.
