As a Principal Software Engineer - Azure Storage, you will have a technical leadership role. You will be involved in all phases of ensuring Azure Storage remains the most available and durable storage in the world. This opportunity will allow you to learn about state-of-the-art techniques for building one of the most scalable storage systems in the world, about distributed systems design at cloud scale, about how new hardware innovations like DPUs can be leveraged in such systems, as well as building and supporting cloud services at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Lead idenfitiation of criticaldata availability and durability improvements necessary across the portfolio of storage offerings.

  • Look for opportunities to build common software that can reduce vulnerabilities across the fleet and across the storage services. Determinenecessary improvement plans and their prioritiesand document work needed, including any dependencies.

  • Hands-on leadership of theengineering work needed to drive durability/availability improvements.Partner with the engineering teamsresponsible for the different offeringsto ensure adoption and success.

  • Develop or partner to drivenewinnovation to enhancedata durability, availability and failure tolerance across the storage fleet while minimizing impact on performance and cost.

  • Develop and document new ideas and prototype themin partnership with others as needed. Work with appropriate stakeholders (Leadership Team, Product Management) to drive new ideas to success.

  • Hold accountability as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), mentoring engineers across products/solutions, working on-call to monitor systems/products/services for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.

  • Proactively seek new knowledge and adapt to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, Javascript or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of systems experience in hands-on development ofreliable and performant distributed systems.

      

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science OR related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, OR Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experiences with storage systems in the areas like availability, remote copy, high performance, durability schemes.

  • Knowledge of distributed systems.

Software Engineering IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $161,600 - $286,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $209,600 - $314,400 per year.
