Job Description

The New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) provides for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods in the City of New York and maintains and enhances the transportation infrastructure crucial to the economic vitality and quality of life of City residents. The FOIL Unit receives approximately 6,000 requests for records each year and requires prompt and complete responses to all requests. The successful candidate will review and respond to FOIL requests that require the review of voluminous records, conduct searches for records maintained in multiple electronic databases, paper records, and data sources. The successful candidate will be expected to provide responses to FOIL requests, which may include identifying relevant exemptions under FOIL and the redaction of responsive documents. The successful candidate may also have responsibility for phone correspondence with public and private entities, investigating status of requests from the public and communicating the results to the public, various administrative tasks related to these FOIL requests, such as acknowledging incoming FOIL requests within five business days as required by law and inputting FOIL requests received by mail into the citywide Open Records Portal.

TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION CANDIDATE MUST BE SERVING PERMANENTLY IN THE TITLE OF CLERICAL ASSOCIATE, OR REACHABLE ON THE CLERICAL ASSOCIATE CIVIL SERVICE LIST, OR ELIGIBLE UNDER THE 55A PROGRAM.

Qualifications

Qualification Requirements

A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and one year of satisfactory clerical experience.

Skills Requirement

Keyboard familiarity with the ability to type at a minimum of 100 key strokes (20 words) per minute.
