General Summary:

Experienced level professional engineer responsible for Controls Engineering support and process improvement work for high-volume manufacturing lines using standardized procedures. Ensures products and/or designs are reliable manufacturable, and/or cost-effective

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide production support for manufacturing lines from the cell controller down to the device level. Production support includes ensuring accurate traceability data collection, troubleshooting, scrap and LAT reduction, and improved process reliability.VA/VE activities.

  • Support business unit objectives by prioritizing projects, designing interfaces for new equipment and making decisions that affect the long-term production process.

  • Provide vendor management and supervision.

  • Manage machine controls for small projects.

  • Create and maintain documents and/or databases with team support. Projects typically meet the immediate needs for the business unit. Such activities vary from clerical to editorial, to creative; e.g. creation/revision of APQP documentation, MI, PI, SOP, maintenance of equipment configuration documents, etc.

  • May provide work to clerical support or unskilled labor at the Clerk 2 to Clerk 3 level including temporarily assigned Skill Based Pay employees or technicians.

  • Provide mentoring and training to technicians.

Customer Team Member:

  • Work with team members to resolve customer issues related to quality and design, resolve issues relative to the process and equipment and implement the required changes to production lines.

  • Work with Product Engineering to implement changes due to product changes.

  • Simultaneous Engineering Team Member:

  • As part of a team, review and make recommendations to improve product design and processes, using various analytical methods and tools (Design for Assembly, Manufacturing and Experiments).

  • Work with the core team (Product, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supplier Development Engineering) on new product development and implementation.

  • Review design changes and verify these changes do not adversely affect the process.

  • Assists experienced engineers with engineering analyses.

  • May refer to complex problems not covered by company standards and/or documentation to the supervisor or senior-level engineer for help or a decision.

  • Routine actions unsupervised with more direction on non-routine tasks.

Job Specifications:

  • Basic knowledge of electrical/electronic systems.

  • Basic level programming of PLC, HMI, motion control systems and robots. Basic knowledge of computer systems. Able to create electrical drawings using CAD software. Excellent oral and written communication skills and organizational skills. Able to solve moderate-to-complex engineering problems addressed with significant autonomy. Some project management. German language skills a plus

Education:

  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.

Experience :

  • Entry-level position. 3-4 years of experience (internship/co-op included).

Experience with the following preferred:

  • Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens S7 PLC & HMI

  • I/O

  • Motion Control

  • Motors and Drives

  • Networks and Communications

  • Machine Vision

  • Robots

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have hand dexterity at moderate speed with accuracy for half of each day.

  • Requires steady, active effort and continuous walking.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Must be able to work in all areas of the plant.
