Amazon Environmental Coordinator, Sr. Environmental Coordinator in Merida, Mexico

Description

-The Sr Environmental Coordinator (EC) will be responsible for supporting environmental compliance at the South Region, focusing on Mérida, Villahermosa, Veracruz and Cancún sites. The EC will assist in implementation and enforcement of standards and policies to support environmental and regulatory compliance and provide guidance for operations, maintenance and construction teams. The individual will complete environmental inspections and performance analysis, monitor metrics, and assist teams in implementation of Amazon environmental standards. The EC will work with internal and external partners that include government entities, contractors, consultants, design, construction, operations and other key stakeholders.

-This is a hands-on position that includes time spent in the yard and on the floor of a busy fulfillment center conducting inspections and audits; taking samples; providing guidance to other employees; ensuring proper waste classification; and dealing with multiple departments and all levels of employees throughout the operation.

Key job responsibilities

• Assist with compliance of local, state, and federal environmental regulations and Amazon policy.

• Assist in driving an environmentally responsible culture within the organization.

• Assist and support thorough and accurate environmental audits for continuous improvement.

Lead, coordinate and supervise the activities of waste coordinators and shared waste coordinators at the sites.

• Prioritize and manage multiple assignments concurrently

Represent Amazon at appropriate levels with governmental agencies during inspections.

• Work collaboratively with other Environmental Assurance and Protection (EAP) Team in Mx, contractors and consultants to ensure compliance and conformance with the Amazon Environmental System.

• Drive the completion of environmental incident investigations.

Assist with managing and handling regulated waste programs.

• Tracking of air emissions and other Key Operational metrics related to environmental performance.

• Inspect construction projects to assure sediment and erosion controls are maintained.

• Assist with spill clean-ups and emergency response.

Basic Qualifications

•Bachelor’s Degree

•Strong interpersonal skills, communication skills, and proven relationship builder

•Strong attention to details

•Proficient with MS Excel, Word, Windows Operating Systems, and Environmental Management Systems

•Experience and ability to dive deep with engineering teams to understand operations process for environmental risk assessment

•Knowledge of Mexican state and federal environmental regulations

•Experience engaging with Regulatory Agencies in permit application

•English B2Preferred Qualifications

•Bachelor’s Degree in civil, chemical or environmental engineering, or environmental science or related field of study.

•2+ years of experience serving as an environmental technical resource or program specialist

•Broad knowledge of Mexican environmental regulations

•Experience in logistics is preferred

•Experience demonstrating a high level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others and achieve results

•Proficient in Microsoft Office and the use of pivot tables and the development of charts and graphics

•Excellent ownership

•Effective communicator, sending clear, concise and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing.

•College Degree

•Excellent organizational and project management skills

•Experience in a fast paced, changing/growing organization

•Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem solving ability
