Intermediate/Senior Electrical Engineer (P.Eng. with EGBC) for Building Services Electrical (including HVAC, fire alarms, security, life safety)

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Electrical Engineer Job Duties

  • Direct and coordinate electrical planning and implementation ensuring compliance with specifications, codes, and work order requirements

  • Report work compliance with relevant codes, standards and procedures

  • Provide designs such items as cable tray layouts, electrical equipment arrangements, lighting layouts and LV single line diagrams

  • Provide electrical calculations such as volt-drop, EHT heat loss, illumination level, distribution transformer sizing and panel loading

  • Prepare specifications for purchase of materials and equipment

  • Operate computer-assisted engineering and design software such as AutoCAD & MicroStation/PDS

  • Provide expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems

  • Create technical reports, documentation, calculations and sketches

  • Develop sustainable work relationships to ensure positive resolutions with all contacts

  • Perform electrical studies as assigned

  • Create conceptual designs for assigned projects

  • Create specifications as needed

  • Prepare cost estimates and equipment layouts

  • Oversee the implementation of designs

  • Provide resource estimates and schedules for projects

  • Make technical decisions

  • Direct and coordinate other electrical part of the project team

  • Maintain records of project resources

  • Participate in department training programs

  • Maintain up-to-date electrical engineering knowledge and stay current with industry trends and best practices

  • Business Development Support 

  • Support the Business Development Team (BD) to effectively manage and expand existing customer relationships

  • Support the BD team to grow and develop a new customer base

  • Support BD activities including but not limited to proposal preparation, attendance at conferences, seminars, etc. for the purpose of networking and promoting the company

    QUALIFICATIONS & TECHNICAL SOFTWARE SKILLS

  • 5 to 8  years’ work experience from graduation level, possible PMP designation or relevant work experience. 

  • Professional Engineer's designation in BC or in another Canadian Province. 

  • Demonstrated  design of distribution related electrical systems is considered an asset

  • Demonstrated  design of Building Systems, e.g., fire alarm, data/voice, security, door access controls, lighting controls

  • Demonstrated  design of Hospitals, e.g., nurse call, normal, vital and delayed vital power systems, fire alarm, data/voice, security, door access controls, lighting controls

  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering theories and principals

  • Demonstrated use of ETAP, a power system analysis software

  • Demonstrated use of AGI32, a lighting analysis software

  • Beginner to Intermediate skills with drafting tools such as AutoCAD, REVIT and/or MicroStation is preferred.

  • Able to conduct detailed calculations to ensure that designs meet engineered standards and applicable codes

  • Experience with multiple phases of projects including preliminary and detailed design, tendering, construction supervision and commissioning is an asset

  • Valid Class 5 Motor Vehicle Operator's License to facilitate independent travel to project sites and other office locations

  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with a range of personalities to establish effective working relationships with the required stakeholders
