Boston Public Schools Stipend Opportunity: Summer - ESY Physical Therapy Supervisor in Boston, Massachusetts

THIS IS A SUMMER POSITION. EMPLOYMENT IS SEASONAL AND TEMPORARY Program Description: Extended School Year (ESY) provides specialized services for students with disabilities whose IEP Team has determined that, in order to minimize substantial regression and reduce substantial recoupment time, a student is required to receive ESY services as identified by the IEP Team. These IEP services are based upon the individual needs of the students per their IEP goals/objectives. Regular/Temporary: Part-Time, Temporary Special Application Procedures: THIS IS A STIPEND, TEMPORARY PART TIME POSITION. REPORTS TO: Position reports to the Assistant Director of Related Services. It works closely with ESY Site Coordinators and the Director of Extended School Year and Expanded Learning in the Office of Specialized Services. Program Schedule: The instructional hours for students are typically 6 hours per day, 5 days per week, for 5 weeks from July 8 to August 9, 2024. Supervision of ESY PTAs would need to occur during this program schedule. OPPORTUNITY RESPONSIBILITIES : The ESY Supervising Physical Therapist is expected to: Provide supervision to each assigned PTA during the ESY program and PD days per Board of Allied Health Professionals Regulations (259 CMR 5.00). PD dates are subject to change, but will be scheduled for late June. Provide in person supervision at PT’s discretion, for a minimum of 10% of PTAs working hours during the PTAs 6-hour work day for 5 weeks with amount of supervision time to be determined by student and Physical Therapy Assistant need and professional regulations. The Supervising Physical Therapist must be available to the PTA at least by telecommunication for the entirety of the ESY Workday and across all work days in the ESY program. Per the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy, “The supervising physical therapist maintains verbal and written contact with supportive personnel, including being on call, when physical therapy services are being provided.” Review and support physical therapy assistant session plans to prepare for rigorous instruction. Support PTA in activities to ensure student support, such as provision of therapy sessions, session planning, scheduling of student services, data collection, progress reporting. Be located within the state of Massachusetts for the school-day duration of the entire ESY program. QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED: Master’s degree or DPT. Massachusetts License as a Physical Therapist. Experience in one or more of the following areas: Autism, Intellectual Impairment, Multiple Disabilities, Physical Disabilities, Specific Learning Disability, Emotional Impairment, Early Childhood. Current authorization to work in the United States. Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment. QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED: Current Physical Therapist in the Boston Public Schools. At least 3 years of practice as a Physical Therapist. Current Safety Care certification. Knowledge and expertise of adaptive equipment required for the support of students within an educational environment. BPS is particularly interested in candidates who are fluent in one of BPS' official languages: Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, & Somali. TERMS: Terms/Salary Grade: Compensation to be provided as a flat rate of $4000 for the first PTA supervised. Should the Supervising PT agree to supervise additional PTA, each additional PT increases compensation by $2,000. Compensation is contingent on fulfilling the position expectations for the duration of the 5 week ESY program. All employees must read and agree to the BPS 2024 Summer Program Terms of Employment.
