Department Profile

Firm Risk Management (FRM) enables Morgan Stanley to achieve its business goals by partnering with business units across Firm to realise efficient risk adjusted returns, acting as a strategic advisor to the Board and protecting the Firm from exposure to losses as a result of market, credit, liquidity, model and other risks. Risk COO team within FRM is responsible to ensure smooth operations of the team.

Background on the Position

Morgan Stanley seeks a professional to act as the COO for Firm Risk Management department. The individual will cover a diverse range of responsibilities to facilitate operations and management.

To be successful, candidate needs to have relevant educational background (finance, economics, engineering), relevant work experience (budget, headcount reporting), exceptional presentation skills, and the ability to work independently and efficiently under tight deadlines. Information processed in the department is confidential and thus the candidate must demonstrate high level of integrity.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Help with the execution, communication and tracking of the department’s strategy.

  • Primarily responsible to form team’s talent strategy including but not limited to the growth of team, retention of employees, training and development, etc..

  • Liaising with Finance, IT, HR, CS, Global COO teams and FRM Mumbai team to run the daily COO tasks.

  • Track and present KPIs to senior management.

  • Help in sourcing and hiring of personnel and Infrastructure roles in partnership with HR Recruitment, maintain appropriate staffing levels (recruiting, hiring, reassigning at peak times, etc.).

  • Oversee strategic space management planning, budget oversight and other logistically activities.

  • Promote team integration, employee engagement as well as cross functional communication and collaboration.

  • Keep abreast of regulatory changes and adapt strategies accordingly.

  • Assure compliance to outsourcing agreements.

  • Identify and develop areas for improvement including system enhancement, process controls to improve the throughput, quality of work, supervisory reviews.

  • Ensure staff receive appropriate training & development, assist in developing training plans & provide coaching where necessary.

  • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.

  • Act as point of escalation for issues of Firm Risk Management, Mumbai.

  • Knowledge of financial products through industry experience or exceptional academic background in related fields (BS in Finance/Economics and/or MBA)

  • 6 years of work experience in COO role

  • Expertise in MS Office (Excel and PowerPoint)

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills

  • Very good communication skills, both oral and written
