Styrofoam Operations Manager/Production Engineer

This job includes the primary role of Production Engineer for the Joliet extruded polystyrene (XPS) facility. The facility consists of a single 48” foam production line with the highest capacity globally and a loading and shipping department, all located at the Joliet site in Channahon, Illinois.

Under the general direction of the Site Leader, the Operations Manager/production engineer (OMPE) is the technical resource for all aspects of plant operation. Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintains an understanding of applicable process, equipment and control technology. Is very knowledgeable of mechanical and electrical equipment as well as process cooling and extrusion

  • Site Process Safety Focal Point

  • Works with and coaches shift teams to troubleshoot and optimize plant operations in order to meet goals related to TEEP, OEE, P2P (produce to plan), costs and KPI’s.

  • Collects and analyzes plant performance data

  • Utilizes and implements Most Effective Technology (MET) and uses MOC to communicate changes

  • Utilizes and develops plant operating discipline

  • Maintains compliance with process safety requirements such as Loss Prevention Principles, and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA)

  • Utilizes Operate Plant work process and plant management system

  • Acts as focal point for engineering documents (P&IDs, etc.)

  • People Leader for the operator staff

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or similar Engineering discipline

  • Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing experience preferred

  • Demonstrated strong technical and interpersonal skills

  • Background in process control using PLCs a plus

  • Black Belt or Green Belt Project certification preferred

This role participates in the plant's call duty schedule. Minimal travel required.
